9) Crematories around Chiang Mai
Crematories are visible on all our tours. Like temples, you find them everywhere in Thailand. That is not strange in a country where 95% of the population is Buddhist and cremation is the traditional Buddhist funeral. Almost every village or sub-district has its own crematorium. After the funeral the ashes might end up in the Ping River (last photo).
Sometimes we have “the luck” to pass an ongoing funeral. On the photo below the ceremony for a high ranked monk.
